Srinagar: Terming adoption of resolution on implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state as the darkest hour in the history of Jammu and Kashmir Legislature, main opposition National Conference (NC) alleged that extension of 101st Amendment Act of Indian Constitution in its current form was a stepping stone to erode Article 370.
“By implementing 101st Amendment Act of Indian Constitution in the state, they (government) is repealing fiscal autonomy of J&K. It is a stepping stone to erode Article 370,” Senior NC lawmaker Ali Mohammad Sagar told UNI after the resolution was passed in the state Legislative Assembly.
Alleging that the Finance Minister has miserably failed to convince the state legislature that measures have been put to safeguards the special status of the state, he said Dr Haseeb Drabu was echoing the ideology of BJP that Article 370 should be made more positive and constructive. “It is the ideology of BJP and RSS. The next target of PDP and BJP will be Article 370,” he added.
Meanwhile, senior NC MLA Devinder Singh Rana alleged that the 101st Amendment Act in the Indian Constitution has been implemented in its original form in the state without any safeguards.
“The government and Dr Drabu have time and again reiterated that safeguards will be put in place before implementing GST in the state. But after two days of discussion in the Assembly they have not given any roadmap with regards to putting safeguards to protect the fiscal and political autonomy of the state. The 101st Amendment Act in the Indian Constitution has been implemented in its original form in the state,” he said.
He said as the PDP-BJP coalition was in majority in the legislature, they were able to adopted this resolution.
“It is the darkest hour in the history of Jammu and Kashmir Legislature,” he said.
When asked what will be the future plan of action, he said the party will take a decision in a meeting to counter the assault on the special status of J&K.
