Srinagar: Minister for Revenue, Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation & Reconstruction and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri called for urgent Fire Safety Audit of major Hospitals in the City here Thursday.
This was stated by the Minister at a high level meeting of Department of Disaster Management here. Principal Secretary Home R K Goyal, Commissioner Secretary Revenue Muhammad Ashraf Mir, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan, Director F&ES Rajinder K Hak , Director State Disaster Management Authority Aamir Ali attended the meeting.
The Minister asked the officials to immediately start fresh Fire Safety Audit of the major hospitals in the City and submit its report. He also asked them to submit the fire safety audit of Civil Secretariat within ten days.
” There is urgency to carry out fire audit of all Government buildings. We are starting with hospitals and will eventually cover every building,” he said.
Stressing on the disaster preparedness of the concerned departments, the Minister said for mitigating of disasters, it is critical to have synergy between various departments.
Veeri stressed on increasing the capacity building of departments and institutions meant for mitigation of disasters. He also asked them to organize capsule courses for the Disaster Management personnel regularly in different disaster management institutions of the country.
The Minister also asked the Director Disaster Management to frame a conceptual plan for bringing more vibrancy in the department within fifteen days.
The meeting also had a threadbare discussion on strengthening F&ES Department and SDMA.
Keeping in view new challenges posed by disasters, the Minister was informed that for modernization of F&ES department, rescue equipments worth 12 crore have been approved by the World Bank.
