Srinagar: The national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, has been closed for traffic due to landslides at various places, triggered by heavy rain.
However, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway and historic Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region are through for traffic.
A traffic police official said traffic was suspended on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to landslides, triggered by rain at Ramso, Panthihal and Ramban.
However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway have pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides and put through the highway.
Meanwhile, only one-way traffic will ply on historic 86-km-long Mughal road, which is been seen as alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. “Traffic will ply from Rajouri-Poonch to Shopian on the road today,” they added.
They said the traffic on Srinagar-Leh national highway, which connects Ladakh region with rest of the state, was also plying normally.
