Srinagar: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and Information Department, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali Thursday launched an online web portal “e.Window” of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) here at its office building in Bemina.
Congratulating the entire team of LMD, especially Controller LMD, Vipra Bahl on the launch of website, the Minister said it is an appreciative step and would go a long way to ease out consumer dealings with the Department.
Briefing the Minister about the website, Controller LMD informed that the main advantage of the website is that it would greatly help in saving the time of consumers as instead of running around, would be able to avail various services offered by LMD by clicking from the comfort of their homes or in their offices.
The Minister was further informed that the website would also enhance transparency in the functioning of the department as it will readily provide information regarding fee structure for various activities including verification fee, and license fee to the seekers.
The Minister was briefed that as per his instructions the website is equipped with “Consumer Redressal Mechanism” A consumer could register his complaint online on www.jklm.nic.in or could even make a phone call on a toll free number-1800 180 7105, the Minister was informed. Later the registered complaint would be directed to the concerned officer so that it could be redressed within shortest possible time.
Choudhary Zulfkar Ali was also informed that information regarding rights of consumers and the nature and duties of officers in LMD is also available on the website.
The Minister said weights and measures are important component of our lives. He said the LMD department is an authority over our everyday activities including every sale, and every measurement. He said the beauty of LMD is that it works on scientific lines, which makes it very interesting. The Minister stressed LMD must increase its ambit. He added that his ministry is working to bring in other related departments under its ambit.
Government is keen to strengthen the LMD department, for which various steps are taken, including creating infrastructure for them.
In her presentation, Controller LMD, Vipra Balh informed the Minister that now aspirants including dealers, manufacturers and repairmen do not need to visit our office to get various kinds of forms as the same could be downloaded remotely from the website.
The Controller LMD further said the department in near future is intending to add an “online payment gateway” option to the website. Vipra Bahl said it would save the consumers from running around banks and post-offices as they could pay LMD department directly through the option available on the website.
Director FCS&CA, Nissar Ahmad Wani, Joint Controller, LMD Kashmir Amar Singh, Joint Controller, LMD Jammu V S Sambyal, Deputy Controller, Jammu, Kashmir, Manoj Prabhakar, Tanveer Ahmad other concerned officers also attended the function.
