Srinagar: A day after Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) Mohammad Ayub Pandith was lynched to death by a mob outside the historic Jamia Masjid, the Additional Superintendent of Police of the area has been shifted.
Additional SP North city Sajjad Khaliq Bhat has been directed to report to Police Headquarter (PHQ) an order issued by the Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid last night said.
Pandith who was on security duty in the masjid in civic was attacked and murdered by a mob outside on June 22 night, when people were offering prayers there on occasion of Lailatul Qadr. However, three persons were injured after the officer opened fire in self defence.
The area falls under the jurisdiction of police station Nowhatta in north city, where the Additional SP Bhat was posted.
Meanwhile, Additional SP (City Traffic) Sajad Ahmad Shah was given additional charge of SP North Srinagar.
Meanwhile, five accused persons were arrested while seven others have been identified in the case.
Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the murder of Pandith.
