Srinagar: A militant was killed when alert troops foiled yet another infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector in the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.
Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said alert troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants infiltrating into this side from Pakistan administrated Kashmir (PaK) in Keran sector in north Kashmir.
He said the soldiers challenged the militants and asked them to surrender. However, the militants fired at the troops with automatic weapons, he said, adding that the forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which one militant was killed.
He said an AK 47 rifle was recovered from the encounter site.
“The operation was still going on and additional security forces have been rushed to further cordon off the area,” he added.
The infiltration attempt comes hours after three Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
