Market checking intensified in Srinagar, G’bal, Kupwara, Bla

Srinagar: In run up to auspicious occasions of Shab-e-Qadar, Juma-tul-Vida and Eid-ul-Fitr, market checking was intensified in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Kupwara and Baramulla districts.

In Srinagar, the enforcement squad of the FCS&CA Department conducted market checking in Batamaloo, Parimpora, Shaltang, HMT, Fateh Kadal, Khanyar, Dalgate, Boulevard, Gagribal, Nehru Park, Ishbar Nishat, Shalimar, Tailbal and Hazratbal markets.

During the drive as many as 250 business establishments were inspected and a penal sum of Rs 19500 was realized from 40 erring traders.

In Ganderbal, an extensive market checking was conducted Thursday in various markets of the district during which a fine of Rs 5600 was realized from 15 erring traders for violating various provisions of Essential Commodities & Standard of Weights and Measures Acts

Similarly, in Kupwara special market checking teams inspected various markets of Handwara Tehsil, Kupwara town and other Tehsil headquarters. The teams realized Rs 20,000 as fine from erring traders who were found involved in violating different sections of Essential Commodities Act while a huge quantity of substandard adulterated milk, fruits, vegetable, spices, and eatables were destroyed on the spot and about 50 Kgs of polyethene bags were also seized as well.

Whereas, in Baramulla market checking squads under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner inspected various markets in the town during which a special mobile testing laboratory van was used to check the standard of various food grains on spot.

An amount of Rs 25000 was recovered as fine from erring traders during which polythene, rotten vegetables, and contaminated spices were seized and destroyed on the spot.

It was saidthe market checking in all the valley districts would be further intensified in coming days to keep a check on profiteering, black marketing and hoarding and to ensure essentials are sold to customers at government approved rates only.
