Srinagar: The Legal Metrology Officer Circle-2 of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Srinagar during a routine inspection of markets of city Srinagar found the Linc Pen Type Executive II Gel Pen in the packed form carrying a sticker for PKD (packing date).
A challan case was registered against the manufacturing company namely Linc Pen & Plastics Kolkata for using a sticker for the mandatory declaration.
Under Legal Metrology laws, every pre-packaged commodity shall carry all the mandatory declarations such as MRP /PKD/Address /Consumer-care details/Net Quantity etc in printed form in clear and prominent way so that rights of consumers shall not be encroach upon by the traders.
The Deputy Controller Srinagar issued a notice to the company for the lapse and the company in response confessed the shortcoming and assured the department in writing that they shall be very careful in future and pleaded for compounding the said offense. The challan case was compounded for Rs 50,000.
Consumers are informed not to accept products in packed form without mandatory declarations of MRP/PKD/Net Quantity/Consumer Care details/Complete address of the manufacturer/Packer/Importer. They should also insist on the trader to offer for sale the products carrying all the mandatory declarations in the lucid form.
