Srinagar: A gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Kakapora area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir on Wednesday night, police said.
An official said that forces cordoned off New Colony Kakapora after a naka party spotted militants travelling in a vehicle.
“During the search operation, contact was established and an exchange of fire took place,” he said.
This is the second firefight in past twenty-four hours between the forces and militants.
Two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants were killed in a gunfight with forces in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district earlier today.
Meanwhile, announcements were made over the public address systems of the mosques, asking people to hit the streets to help the “trapped militants” escape.
A cordon and search operation has also been launched in Heff village of adjacent Shopian district.
Sources said that operation was launched in Paddar and Mohandh mohallas of Heff after inputs about the presence of militants.
