Selfless leaders, legislators will take JK to new heights: Works Minister

Srinagar: Minster for Public Works and leader of Upper House, Naeem Akthar Saturday said the selfless leaders’ and dedicated legislators would take the State to the new heights of development and prosperity.

Akhter was speaking while paying tributes to the deceased personalities including former Jammu and Kashmir Governor, GC Saxena, former Speaker, Ali Mohammad Naik, former Minister Sardar Rangil Singh, former MP Syed Nizam-ud-Din Shah, former MLA Rishi Kumar Koushal and former MLA Shanti Devi.

The Minister highlighted the contribution of former Governor and former legislators for strengthening democratic values, Akhter said their contributions would always be remembered in history. He said despite numerous challenges, these leaders worked with dedication and never allowed wavering off their credibility and trust entrusted by people upon them.

Recalling the contribution of former Governor, GC Saxena, Akthar said he was administrative head of the state at very turbulent times and he tried to resolve issues amicably. He said Saxena would be remembered for reviving democracy and the democratic institutions.

Paying rich homage to former Speaker Ali Mohammad Naik, the Minister said was a dedicated political worker who spent his life towards uplifting the people around him. He said even a fatal attack couldn’t deter him from pleading the people’s cause and would work tirelessly for their upliftment.

While speaking about the contributions of Sardar Rangil Singh, the Minister said he was a great leader who even at the age of 90 was highly active in the political arena and taking up cause of people. His dedication toward social service and his attitude of respect is a source of inspiration for present day leaders.

Speaking about Syed Nizam-ud-Din Shah, Akthar said he was a great secular leader whose works regarding strengthening and maintaining communal harmony in the state are remarkable. He said the former leader dedicated his life in strengthening the democratic institutions and till his last days of life, he would come to watch the proceedings of the house and would give valuable suggestions and advice to the young legislators.

The Minister also spoke about the good qualities of Ex MLA Rishi Kumar Koushal and threw light on his contributions towards serving the cause of the people.

Recalling former MLA Shanti Devi’s political contribution towards the State, the Minister said she was a humble and down to earth lady with nerves of steel.

He said Devi worked her to bridge the gaps between Jammu and Kashmir and fought hard for cause she believed in and worked steadfast to improve things.

Later the Minister condemned the civilian killings in Kashmir and expressed condolences to the families of slain cops and civilians killed in border shelling. He said legislators and politicians should rise above party politics and try to restore the normalcy across the State at all levels.
