INTACH- Deptt. of Environmental Sciences JU initiative

Jammu: MLA Nagrota, Devender Singh Rana has launched a joint initiative with INTACH and the Department of Environmental Sciences Jammu University to preserve and revive the Heritage sites in Nagrota constituency.
Nagrota constituency has many ancient Temples , Ponds, Bowlis and Peer Sthans some of which are dated back to Mahabharata and so the need to preserve them and restore the heritage for the posterity, said Rana.
The areas specifically discussed were Nandani, Jandrah, Dansal, Kishanpur, Kapotha, Surinsar, Aithem, Kattalbatal, Jagti, Marh, Bamyal, Devi-Mai, Kol Kandoli.
The convenor of the INTACH in Jammu S.M. Sahni made a detailed presentation on the different sites which were visited by Dr. C.M. Seth, IFS (Retd), Environmentalist and Co-convenor INTACH,J&K State, Professor Anil Raina Head of the Department Environmental Sciences, Professor Sanjay Sharma, Professor Deepika Salthia, Kuldeep Wahi, Co-Convenor INTACH , research scholars and Photo Journalist Mukesh Gupta who conducted a detailed study of the different sites which have a heritage value and potential to be revived to restore the history, culture and heritage of the area.
Rana said the Heritage sites that exist in Nagrota constituency are the reflection of the pride of this great land of all Gods, Goddesses and Saints and it is his endeavour as a local representative to revive these in collaboration with INTACH and Department of Environmental Sciences Jammu University with the active support of the local people particularly using the wisdom, knowledge and institutional memory of the elders of the area and the youth and students of the area.
S.S. Sahni of the INTACH committed his involvement to the project and assured Devender Singh Rana all support in this initiative.
Professor Deepika Slathia gave a complete technical presentation on the archeologically aspects of the sites visited by them and the research conducted by them.
This initiative of Devender Singh Rana, INTACH and the Department of Environmental Sciences Jammu University will complete the mapping of all these Heritage sites as also make a detailed plan for revival of old Jammu-Katra Heritage road as also setting up of Tourism Nomad Village as tourist attraction.
Professor Anil Raina presented a vote of thanks at the end of the presentation and assured Rana of the Department’s commitment to promote this unique initiative of the Legislature.
Reyaz was also were also present in the presentation done in the Department of Environmental Sciences Jammu University. (KNS)
