KVK Reasi educates farmers about Layout of Orchards

Reasi/June,14: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized campaign on “ Layout of Orchards”   at village Judd in Reasi district of J&K which was  attended by a large number of farmers of the area.

The program was organized under the   guidance of Associate Director Extension and Incharge of KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr R K Arora. The program was initiated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi.

He urged upon the farmers to switch over to modern techniques to increase productivity of fruit crops like as there is ample scope in the region. He further added that the farmers of the area should shift from subsistence horticulture farming to commercial horticulture farming so that their socio-economic status can be raised.

He said the farmers can double their farm income by establishing the orchards onscientific lines. He elaborated the scientific guidelines for the layout of the orchards. He stressed on the marketing of fruit crops and said the district is bestowed with the world famous place Katra where the fruit crops and processed fruit products can be sold throughout the year.

Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, scientist guided the farmers on the layout of orchards and stressed on the proper spacing between plants to ensure maximum production. He elaborated on the proper location and site of the orchards and advised the farmers to go for   soil testing before establishing the orchard of any fruit crop.

On this occasion many quarries were raised by the farmers which KVK scientists answered in a satisfactorily way. The program was assisted by Smt. Shalini Khajuria.

The program was concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with vote of thanks.
