Siliguri, Jun 10: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today reiterated that peace has returned to the Hills, and said, “Let the Hills people be happy”.
Addressing the media at Uttarkanya, the secretariat of north Bengal, she said, “The law will take its own course”.
Heeding a long-standing demand of transporters and tourists, the Chief Minister said, the State Government has decided to allow cars registered in Darjeeling to be driven to the other districts in North Bengal, which was not the case till now She said, for the sake of the stranded tourists, “we are continuing with the free bus services from Darjeeling for another 24 hours”.
Since tourism is the main industry in the Hills, it should never be affected by any untoward incidents, she said.
“Trade, commerce and tourism need to be strengthened” She reassured everyone that “I am continuing to monitor the situation from here”.
