Omar’s sermons on “suffocation “of youth

Omar Abdullah, the leader of the main opposition National Conference, saying that Mehbooba government is suffocating youth by its “repressive policies” is though true but National Conference during its reign of power too failed in hand holding of youth in Kashmir. Though the incumbent Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti can very rightly be blamed for suffocating youth but Omar Abdullah too was his best in alienating kashmiri youth during summer unrest in the year 2010. If Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP is blamed for giving BJP an opportunity to come to power for the first time since 1947 in Jammu & Kashmir state, Omar Abdullah’s National Conference too can very rightly be blamed for the mess it created in Kashmir it created by taking some unpopular decisions during its reigns of power in the state. Kashmiris can’t forget that Farooq Abdullah led National Conference government in the year 2001 allow use of POTA but the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led PDP-Congress coalition government that came to power in the year 2002 disallowed the use of this draconian legislation. So it is for Omar Abdullah a former Chief Minister and a future contender for position of Chief Minister to ponder over the role his father Farooq Abdullah played to allow use of POTA. Kashmiris still remember that POTA was used to suffocate Kashmir use as this draconian legislation mandated the government forces to carry out repressive measures even against youth who were not even remotely connected to militancy in Kashmir. No doubt that the suffocation of youth caused by repressive measures of Mehbooba led PDP-BJP coalition government were wider and deeper during summer unrest last year but the Omar Abdullah as head of NC-Congress coalition government did not  bother to utter even a single about the suffocation youth faced during summer unrest in the year 2010. Now when Mehbooba Mufti heads the PDP-BJP coalition government, National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah talks about the suffocation caused by the “repressive measures” of the government forces.

As both Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are equally responsible for the suffocation of youth caused by the repressive measures of the government forces from time to time, youth of the state finding themselves at the receiving end reserves the right to seek explanations from both Omar and Mehbooba one their failures in securing the future of the present day Kashmir generation.

Though Omar Abdullah as leader of the main opposition National Conference is morally bound to remind Mehbooba government of its constitutional duties to protect the rights of the people but he is also duty bound to regret over the deaths caused by disproportionate use of force during unrest in the year 2010.
