Srinagar/June,3: Accusing police of going soft on the ‘culprits’ the family members of a female Junior Engineer Mudasir Aziz Butta who allegedly ended her life after jumping into the river Jehlum in Old Srinagar City Monday staged a protest here in Press Enclave Srinagar. The protesting family alleged that Police have not been initiating any action against the in-laws of the slain woman who according to protesters are responsible for the death of Mudasir.
The body of Mudasir Aziz, who allegedly jumped into Jhelum river in downtown Srinagar on May 5, is yet to be recovered.
An eyewitness has claimed that he saw a woman jump from Zaina Kadal Bridge, but he didn’t get a clear look at the woman’s face.
The family suspect foul play and want the police to question her in-laws and her husband, who they alleged of repeatedly harassing her.
On 5th May, they received a call from her in-laws that Mudasir had committed suicide.
Irfan Aziz Butta, brother of the deceased, said: “We want to know two things. What were they (Mudasir and her husband) arguing about before she left the house and how did they (in-laws) know she went to Zaina Kadal bridge? There are many bridges on the way to Zaina Kadal. Barely a moment after she allegedly jumped into the river, her husband arrived at the spot. How does he know, her wife has jumped near Zaina Kadal bridge.”
The protesters who were carrying placards like ‘Why is police gentle with culprits?’ and ‘help us in finding Mudasir’ also raised slogans for justice.
Mudasir Aziz was a Junior Engineer, in the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Ganderbal.
Mudasir and her husband, Javed Ahmad Bungree had been married for five years. The couple has a four-year-old son.
