Hard posturing on Kashmir

Kashmir conflict has confused BJP as is obvious from the contradictory statements of Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Information Minister Vankaiah Naidu. The contradictory statements of the BJP leaders speak volumes about the directionless policy of Narendra Modi led BJP government at the centr. While the Home Minister Rajnath Sing day in and day out asserts that  Modi government would permanently resolve vexed Kashmir issue, the Information and Broadcasting Minister Vankaiah Naidu has in his  latest statement said  that Modi government won’t talk with what he calls “ disastrous separatists” in Kashmir. Ruling out talks with the separatists by one minister and commitment to resolve Kashmir issue permanently by another minister shows the confusion which is prevailing within the BJP ranks over the current crisis in Kashmir and a permanent solution to the issue which is standing at the core of difficulties in India-Pakistan relations for the last seventy years. As the Narendra Modi Government has already taken some major offensives against the separatists in Kashmir by conducting raids on their houses, the indications of Modi government continuing the policy of  arms twisting methods for restoration of normalcy in Kashmir are quite evident . Hot pursuit, coupled with raids on the residential houses of separatist leaders and businessmen won’t take Modi government any where nearer to peace and normalcy in Kashmir and could fuel yet another phase of unrest which may prove very detrimental for the already worsening law and order situation in the state. Yashwant Sinha also a BJP man coming to Kashmir again and again if given recognition by Modi government can take out the BJP leaders from confusion to reconciliation but not in presence of the present policy of hot pursuit. Since Sinha has already proposed dialogue with separatists and even urged the central government to declare ceasefire during the month of Ramadan, it is for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take a call on dialogue with separatist and announcement of unilateral ceasefire on the line of control dividing two parts of Jammu & Kahmir one controlled by India and the other by Pakistan. Sorry to say that the initiatives taken by the Modi government are contrary to what Yashwant Sinha has proposed.

Not hard posturing but soft peddling on the role of stake holders including the separatist leadership can further the causes of peace and normalcy in Jammu & Kashmir state.

The  recent statements of Jaitley and Madhav have stung Sinha so badly that he termed the statement of  Defence Minister Arun Jaitley and BJP Chief Amit Shah are discouraging for the peace makers like Yashwant Sinha. Modi Government’s “hard posturing” on Kashmir has disappointed  Yashwant Sinha and his other associates to the extent that they have publicly expressed their disappointment over recent statements of the party leaders  and as well as ministers calling Kashmir a war zone. Not hard posturing but soft peddling on the role of stake holders including the separatist leadership can further the causes of peace and normalcy in Jammu & Kashmir state.
