SRINAGAR: Heat wave conditions are prevailing at many places across the State and is likely to abate during the next 24 hours, where the summer capital, Srinagar, recorded the hottest day so far at 33.2 degree.
Weather will be dry in the State during the next 24 hours, a Met department spokesperson said here this evening. However, during the subsequent days there could be widespread rain or thundershowers in the State.
Mercury witnessed further surge and recorded five to eight degree above normal in the Kashmir valley, where people are observing fast for Ramzan. Srinagar recorded hottest day of the summer so far after the maximum temperature surged and settled at 33.2 degree, seven notches above normal.
Most of the city streets wore a deserted look today as people stayed indoor watching India and Pakistan one-day cricket match on TV.
The sky would be mainly clear and will become partly cloudy as the day progress in Srinagar tomorrow when the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 32 and 15 degrees respectively.
Pahalgam, world famous health resort in south Kashmir, gearing up to serve base camp for annual yatra to Amarnath cave shrine from June 29, also recorded surge in the mercury. The maximum temperature there was 28.7 degree, 6 notches above normal which has resulted in melting on snow on the upper reaches.
