Srinagar, Jun 1: Chairmen of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC)Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq remained under house arrest in Kashmir.
However, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohammed Yasin Malik was yesterday released from Srinagar Central Jail after remaining lodged there since May 28.
Meanwhile, about half a dozen other separatist leaders also remained under house arrest while several others have been detained in police stations.
The separatists were put under house arrest or under detention, after both the factions of the HC and JKLF, called for two-day strike on May 28 and May 29 in protest against the killing of eight militants on May 27, including Sabzar Bhat, successor of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani.
Chairman Mirwaiz remained under house arrest since May 27, media advisor to moderate HC Advocate Shahidul Islam told UNI.
He said Mirwaiz was not being allowed to move out of his Nigeen house, where a large number of security forces and police personnel remained deployed.
Mirwaiz was not being allowed to offer prayers in a mosque, he alleged and said he too also remained under house arrest.
“There was no change near the Hyderpora house of Mr Geelani as large number of security forces remained deployed outside,” a spokesperson Aiyaz Akbar told UNI.
Mr Akbar said he was also place under house arrest in the evening yesterday after being released in the morning.
Mohammad Ashraf Sehrayee, Peer Saifullah and Mohammad Ashraf Laya also remained under house arrest while Syed Imtiyaz and several others are detained in police stations.
A JKLF spokesperson said a local court granted Malik bail yesterday following which he was released from the jail.
