Srinagar/June,2: Hurriyat (M) Chief Mirwai Molvi z Umar Farooq was released from house detention to address the first Friday congregation of the holy month of Ramadhan at the central mosque in downtown Srinagar – summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Media advisor of the Mirwaiz, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, who continues to be under house arrest, said that the chief cleric was released from six-day detention today morning.
Mirwaiz addresses the Muslims at the Jamia Masjid every Friday before the congregational prayers.
He was placed under detention last Saturday to prevent him from leading a protest rally following the killing of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat.
