Restrictions, shutdown continues in Kashmir on 3rd day

Srinagar: Restrictions continued on the third consecutive day on Tuesday in most parts of the Valley while the rest of the areas observed complete shutdown against the against the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, his close aide Faizan Ahmad and a civilian.
The authorities imposed strict curfew like restrictions in Tral, old Srinagar areas and in districts including Pulwama, Anantnag and Shopian, to foil the Tral march called by the separatist leadership.
The Tral chalo call was given by the resistance leadership including Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chaiorman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik in their joint statement issued here.
The curfew like restrictions in Srinagar were today imposed in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of seven Police Stations in Srinagar including Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Kralkhud and Maisuma.
Sabzar, Faizan were killed in a gunfight while Aaqib, a civilian was as per reports was killed in subsequent protests in southern Tral area on Saturday, triggering protests and clashes and a two-day Valley-wide call for shutdown by the resistance camp.
However, the police claimed that the civilian was killed in cross firing.
Meanwhile, a huge contingent of police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on the roads in Srinagar and other sensitive areas.
The police and paramilitary troopers had erected concertina wires on the main roads to thwart the vehicular and pedestrian movement.
All the shops, colleges and schools and business establishments remained closed while the traffic was off the roads. Majority of the roads wore deserted look throughout the day.
The train services and the prepaid mobile telephony services continued to remain suspended for the third consecutive day today.
Both the services according to the officials were suspended due to security reasons.
Besides, the mobile internet services were also suspended in the Valley aimed to prevent “rumours” after the death of Sabzar Bhat.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed for vehicular movement today in view of the Tral Chalo call given by the separatist leadership.
Meanwhile, police in a statement issued to KNS said that the situation across the valley remained peaceful and under control till filing of this report.
However, minor incidents of stone pelting were reported from Keller Chowk in Shopian and Court Road, Pinglish in Tral.
“At Pinglish Tral, miscreants heavily pelted stones on police and security forces deployment in which some police and security forces personnel were injured. The deployment used maximum restraint while dealing with the situation and the miscreants were chased away. A stone pelter was injured in the incident,” the police spokesman said.
He said that to avoid any untoward incident, restriction under section 144 CrPC remained imposed in some part of the city as also in some main towns. (KNS)
