Sabzar killing triggers clashes across Kashmir, Valley shuts in protest

Srinagar/May,26: The killing of militant commander Sabzar Ahmed sparked massive clashes in Tral town and other parts of Kashhmir valley. Shut down across Kashmir crippled normal life minutes after the news about killing of Sabzar in Tral gunfight was splashed on news websites and TV Channels . District Magistrates of Srinagar,Budgam, Ganderbal and South Kashmir districts have imposed curfew like restrictions in their districts.
The killing of militant commander Sabzar Bhat in Tral encounter sparked shutdown and clashes in Srinagar and several parts of Kashmir, even reports suggest that mobile internet is likely to be suspended in wake of the emerging situation.
In wake of the emerging situation authorities in various colleges in Srinagar suspended their class work while clashes erupted at several places soon after the news about killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad spread across the valley.
Authorities at the Women’s College Srinagar and SP College suspended their classes and asked the students to go home. The classes were suspended to prevent student protests in colleges.
“Yes the class work was suspended in the college at 12:15 and we asked the girls to leave for their homes as situation deteriorated,” said a Professor in Women’s College M A road.
Reports said that panic gripped city centre Lal Chowk after students from the neighboring institutions staged a protest and started pelting stones on CRPF bunker at Exchange Road. Protests also erupted at Polytechnic and Amar Singh College in the city.
Police lobbed tear-smoke shells in Maisuma locality of Srinagar city when protesters hurled rocked on deployed forces personnel. Clashes were also reported from different parts of old Srinagar city.
Shortly after the killing of Sabzar, students at Kashmir University suspended class work and staged a massive anti-India protest.
Reports said that students from Baramulla Degree College in north Kashmir staged massive protest against the killing of Sabzar Bhat. Witnessed said the police reached the spot and tried to pacify the students, triggering clashes. Reports said that students resorted to massive stone-pelting while police fired tear-smoke shells to disperse them.
Massive clashes were reported from Sopore town of Baramulla district. Reports said that students of Boys Higher Secondary School Sopore clashed with police while to disperse them police fired tear-smoke shells. Massive clashes also erupted in main chowk Sopore amid shutdown.
Reports of massive clashes were received from Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, and Anantnag where students staged protests against the killing of Sabzar.
Clashes were also reported from Mir Bazar, Dooru and Qazigund areas. Protesters attacked SOG camp at Nilo Kulgam with stones while in Lassipora village of Pulwama district, Army resorted to aerial firing after protesters attacked their camp with stones.
A youth Javaid Ahmed from Gosu Pulwama suffered pellet injuries in his eye and was shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar.
Spontaneous shutdown was also witnessed in Bandipora town and entire south Kashmir.
A youth from Narbal Budgam was admitted in serious condition at JVC Bemina Hospital. Attendants accompanying him saidReyaz Ahmed Dar son of Jan Muhammad was severely thrashed by government forces at his band saw. They said that Forces barged into his band saw after stone-pelting incident. They also accused forces of ransacking houses.
Reports from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district said that at least thirty-five persons were injured during clashes with government forces.
Reports said that scores of people were brought to Anantnag district hospital from various areas of the district. One of the injured from Mattan area of the district who has suffered a head injury was referred to SMHS hospital for specialized treatment.
Authorities meanwhile suspended train service in wake of the tense situation. The prepaid mobile telephone services and internet mobile were suspended. An official said that the outgoing and incoming call facility on prepaid mobile phones was suspended to prevent “spreading of rumours” after the death of Sabzar Bhat.
District Commissioner Office Srinagar issued a press releasing stating that in view of prevailing Law and Order situation, strict restrictions (Curfew) will be imposed in the territorial jurisdiction of 7 Police Stations viz. P/S Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal, M.R.Gunj, Rainawari, Kralkhud, Maisuma of District Srinagar w.e.f. 28.05.2017 till further orders. However, admit cards of the candidates appearing BOPEE & AIIMS examinations scheduled on 28th May 2017 shall be treated as curfew passes on 28.05.2017. Further all the Colleges and Hr. Sec, Schools of District Srinagar will also remain closed on 29.05.2017.
According to District Magistrate Anantnag strict restrictions would also be in place in the territorial jurisdiction of the district tomorrow on 28 May 2017 to prevent breach of peace and loss of life in view of the prevailing law and order situation.
District Magistrate Budgam, Mir Altaf Ahmad, in an official press released issued Saturday evening said Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed within the territorial jurisdiction of Budgam district with immediate effect till further orders.
According to the District Magistrate Ganderbal, Section 144 of CrPC has been also imposed within the territorial jurisdiction of Ganderbal district with immediate effect till further orders.
