Srinagar/May,26: All train runs have been suspended this afternoon for security reasons in the valley, where clashes erupted between security force and protestors, triggered by killing of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Sabzar Bhat in an encounter in south Kashmir this morning.
“We have suspended all train services between Srinagar-Budgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir,” a railway official said.
Similarly railway service on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region has also been suspended for security reasons in view of the clashes.
However, he said train run was normal on all tracks in the morning.
Protests followed by clashes at several places and spontaneous in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, immediately after the death of the HM commander. Sabzar, who succeeded Burhan Wani, was among two militants killed in a fierce encounter at Tral in Pulwama district.
The train service in the valley remained suspended for about six months last year due to unrest in the valley after the death of Burhan Wani that left about 100 civilians dead and thousands injured.
Railway has suffered damage in the past as demonstrators damaged railway station, trains and other property during protests.
