LMD imposes Rs 77700 fine on erring traders

Samba/May,26: A team of Legal Metrology Department headed by Assistant Controller conducted intensive checking of various Business establishments at Samba, Bari Brahmna, Jatwal, Sagal, Raya Morh, Ramgarh, Kalibari and adjoining areas.

During inspection 24 challans were booked and fine of Rs 77,700 was imposed on the erring traders including owners of Brick kilns for possession and sale of undersize Electricals stores, Industrial units and other business Establishments for violation of various provisions of J&K Standard of weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and packages Commodities rules and other prevailing Legal Metrology and Weights and Measures Laws.

The department directed all the traders to use only Legal Metrology Department verified and authenticated Weighing and Measuring Instruments for Business transactions.

Date of packing (PKD), Net Contents and complete address of the Manufacturer/Packer  and Customer care Number  have been declared on the Commodities to be sold in package form as per the Legal Metrology packages commodities Rules. The Department also asked the traders not to charge more than the MRP declared on the product

The Department has warned the traders to desist away from using unfair trade and anti consumers practices and also appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities.
