Hajj Minister reviews arrangements for Ramadan

Jammu/May,26: Minister of State for Haj & Auqaf, PHE and Irrigation & Flood Control, Power Development, Industries & Commerce, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi Friday convened a meeting to review the arrangements being made by the civil administration for the month of Ramzan.

The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner, Dr Mandeep

K Bhandari, Deputy Commissioner, Rajeev Ranjan, Additional Commissioner, Rehana Batool, SSP Jammu, Dr Sunil Gupta, SSP Traffic, Nisha Nathyal besides other senior officers from various departments and prominent citizens.

The Minister extended greetings on the holy month of Ramadan and said there is intense spiritual meaning to Ramadan for those who fast.

The Minister while reviewing the status of power and water supply, availability of food stock and essential commodities, asked the officers to work with a humanitarian approach keeping in view prevailing harsh weather conditions and expected surge in temperature in coming days. “With regards to the same, any exigency should be immediately addressed to avoid inconvenience to the people,” he added.

Andrabi directed the Power Development Department to ensure uninterrupted power supply especially during Sehri and Iftar. He further directed immediate replacement and repair of damaged transformers to limit unscheduled cuts.

PHE department was directed for ensuring adequate water supply with proper arrangements of water tankers in water scarce areas.

The Minister also asked PDD and PHE to establish help lines to respond to the grievances of the people promptly.

The Minister asked the FCSCA department to ensure adequate supply of ration during the month with concerted efforts of distributing the same to the people smoothly. The Minister also directed to conduct frequent market checks to monitor quality and rates of eatables and other essential commodities.

The Minister directed the officers to work in close coordination to ensure that the people do not face any inconvenience vis-à-vis the essentials during the month of Ramadan.

Concerned agencies were directed to ensure proper cleanliness, sanitation, street lighting and other related facilities especially in and around mosques and shrines.

The Minister impressed upon the police department to ensure foolproof security and proper traffic management.
