Srinagar, May 21: Chairmen of both the factions of Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Shah Geelani remained under house arrest in Srinagar, where separatists have called a rally on the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone today.
There was, however, no restriction on Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik.
Moulvi Farooq was assassinated by some unidentified gunmen on this day at his Nigeen house in 1990 while Lone was shot dead at Eidgah when he was leaving for his home after paying tributes to Mirwaiz in 2002.
Moulvi Farooq was father of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while Lone was father of senior separatist leader Bilal Gani Lone and Minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government Sajjad Gani Lone.
“Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest on May 19, two days ahead of the death anniversary of his father Moulvi Farooq,” a spokesman of the amalgam Advocate Shahidul Islam told UNI.
