CS reviews progress of comprehensive sewerage scheme for Greater Sgr, Jmu

Srinagar/May,18: Chief Secretary,  B B Vyas Thursday  chaired the State Level High Power Committee meeting of Urban Infrastructure & Governance (UIG) Projects of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Administrative Secretaries of H&UD, PHE and I&FC, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and other senior officers were present in the meeting. Besides Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Deputy Commissioner, Jammu and Deputy Commissioner, Leh participated in the meeting through Video Conferencing.

The Committee reviewed the progress of the Comprehensive Sewerage Scheme for Greater Srinagar and Greater Jammu extensively and finalised the modalities for completion of the project in both the cities. Progress of Sewerage Projects for Leh was also reviewed in the meeting.

The sewerage project for Srinagar city has been sanctioned for Rs 132.92 Cr against which Rs 94.55 Cr have been spent till March 2017 and for Jammu city, the sewerage project has been sanctioned for 129.23 Cr, against which Rs 62.61 Cr have been spent till March 2017. The project is being executed through M/s NBCC Ltd.

In order to expedite the completion of the various key components taken up under the project including construction of STPs, Trunk and lateral Sewer lines besides providing connections to households to convert insanitary toilets to sanitary toilets in both Srinagar and Jammu City, the Chief Secretary directed the executing agency to work out the timelines for completion of each component, so that the projects can be completed/commissioned as per the fixed timelines. Steps were also finalised for removing the bottlenecks in the completion of the various components of the sewerage project.

Chief Secretary urged both the Divisional Commissioner’s to conduct fortnightly reviews of these projects to ensure their time bound completion.
