Srinagar/May,17: Government forces Wednesday allegedly thrashed the families of several militants during a cordon and search operation in Heff-Shirmal area of Shopian district in south Kashmir, even as several civilians were reportedly hit by pellets during the ensuing clashes.
Reports quoting locals said that the forces vandalized the properties and beat up family members of militants during the operation launched in the area early today.
An uncle of militant Saddam Padder has been hit in the head, they said, adding that he received several stitches in the wound.
As the operation was on, people took to streets and staged protests.
Forces used tear gas and pellets to disperse the protesters who were throwing stones.
Reports said that at least a dozen civilians were injured in the clashes.
One of the injured has been hit by pellets in his eye. He was shifted to District Hospital Pulwama where from he was referred to a hospital in Srinagar.
Police has denied the reports of thrashing of families of the militants.
