Srinagar/May,13: Prompted by public complaints that retail drug stores operating in Soura area are selling medical and surgical goods in pre-packaged form without carrying the mandatory declarations on their labels, a team of officers from Legal Metrology Department headed by Joint Controller conducted a surprise inspection of medical stores of the area.
During the inspection, it was observed that the drug stores are offering for sale the medical and surgical devices which are without the obligatory declarations such as MRP, Pkd, Net quantity, complete address, e-mail address, consumer grievance cell number.
Pertinently, the Surgical and medical devices are covered under Legal Metrology Act-2009.
The Deputy Controller (Consumer Protection) Kashmir registered the challans against the two MNC (surgical) namely B. D. International India Pvt Ltd Gurgoan, Haryana and covidien Healthcare Pvt Ltd Haryana for violating the labeling norms as prescribed under Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
The companies confessed the lapses and ensured the department that their future supplies of products shall carry all the mandatory declarations in legible and prominent manner. The Joint Controller stamped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on these defaulting companies.
