Student protests: Barring SP HSS Srinagar, classes to resume in all educational institutes

Srinagar/May,12:  Barring S P Higher Secondary School (HSS) Srinagar, class work will resume in all educational institutes in Kashmir valley, where some schools and colleges were closed yesterday in view of clashes between students and security forces.
Officials here said according to the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, class work in SP HSS shall remain suspended on tomorrow as a precautionary measure.
However, they said classes in rest of the educational institutes will resume tomorrow though security forces will be deployed outside these institutes to maintain law and order.
The authorities had ordered suspension of class work in SP HSS Srinagar, Government Degree College Magam and Government HSS Magam in central Kashmir district of Budgam, besides some schools in north Kashmir today as a precautionary measure.
There seems to be no end to the cycle of violence as students clash with security forces on a daily bases in the valley, which has witnessed sprung in protests, triggered by a security force raid on Degree College Pulwama on April 15.
The protesting students are demanding release of their classmates arrested in various educational institutes during the last around four weeks, besides action against security force personnel responsible for allegedly thrashing over 50 students, including girls, during the raid in Degree College Pulwama  on April 15.
The student protests prompted authorities to suspend class work of various HSSs and colleges for over a week last month as a precautionary measure. Since then, authorities have on various occasions suspended class work of different HHSs and colleges.
In view of upward spiral in the violence, the state government last month banned 22 social networking sites, including Facebook and WhatsApp, saying they are used to incite violence and spread rumours. However, the banned sites are still accessible on all mobile networks though Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and on state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) broadband service.
