Srinagar, May 11: The Government has constituted a committee to resolve the rate issues of milk processing plants in the Kashmir Valley, with the latter having agreed to withdraw the rates fixed on the milk.

Minister for Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Choudhary Zulfikar told KNS that a committee has been constituted to look into the issue of rates as fixed by the department and milk plant processing owners.
The committee will be headed by Commissioner Secretary of the department, with Directors of both Jammu and Kashmir, and representatives of the milk plant owners comprising it.
“The committee has been directed to look all the issues of concerning fixing of rates on milk manufactured in the plants. The committee will submit the report in 10 days,” Zulfikar told KNS.
“The milk plant owners have been asked to withdraw their rates fixed till the report is submitted and final decision is taken,” he added.
The decision was taken by the minister today after meeting the representatives of the Milk Processors Association Kashmir.
Shafat Ahmad Shah, President Milk Processors Association Kashmir had said that they fail to understand why rates are still being fixed under SO 145 (E) Dated 15.02.1990 which is a defunct notification.
“We would request the department to consider laws, regulations, rules and notifications which have been issued after 1992 when the economy in India was opened up red tape loosen and market set free to work under its own dynamics,” Shah had told KNS. (KNS)
