Srinagar/May 06: With an aim to promote the culture of sports at grassroots level, J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC) convened a meeting of Sports coordinators of ‘Sports for All’ Saturday here.

The meeting was chaired by the JKSSC Secretary Waheed Ur Rehman Para and the officials of the Sports Council, various heads of Sports clubs and ‘Sports for All’ district coordinators of various sports disciplines attended the meeting.

The coordinators were asked to furnish detailed project report duly supported with revenue model for the overall promotion of various sports disciplines in the State, so that such proposals could be taken up to facilitate the working of such clubs/academies or stadiu

Suggestions were sought from the sports coordinators for bringing JKSSC at grassroots levels. It is pertinent to mention here that 1,20,000 players, in recent months, played at block/district levels in various disciplines for which the registrations were sought earlier.

The heads of the various sports clubs/academies who have registered their clubs with the JKSSC said the response of the JK Sports Council is innovative and progressive.

During the meeting, heads of various sports club and sportspersons suggested that stadiums should be built on modern lines and sports equipments should be provided to players, teams and clubs.

“Players, clubs and teams should be given team kits, sports equipments and the work on stadiums should be accelerated so that the sportspersons could compete at higher levels,” said Salman, a coordinator from Pampore.

“Sports infrastructure should be developed at all the block levels so that the facilities are provided to the aspiring sportspersons living in far flung areas,” said Sofi Arafat, who hails from Pahalgam.

To bring transparency and accountability in the system, the Sports Council is streamlining the player management system, said Secretary, Sports Council, Waheed Ur Rehman Para. He said the system tracks the performance of each registered player at various levels throughout his association with the council.

“Registrations of clubs, teams and players will connect all the relevant stakeholders which will help in identifying the talent at various levels under various matrices and thus attract council’s intervention for nurturing our talent.” Secretary Sports Council added.
