Geelani expresses grief over civilian killings in Qazigund shootout

Srinagar, May 07: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani expressed his deep grief over civilian killings in Qazigund shootout and extended his condolences with bereaved families.

In a statement issued to KNS, Syed Ali Geelani blamed stubborn attitude of Indian authorities for continuous bloodshed & said that since last several decades, people in state are facing war like situation.
Meanwhile on the direction of Syed Ali Geelani, district president, Farooq Ahmad Shah participated in funeral prayers of slain youth in Qaimoh, while as assistant general secretary, Gh Nabi Sumji was placed under house arrest and barred from participation in funeral prayer.
Geelani said that situation in state are turning appalling with each passing day and that Indian authorities rely on their military might to suppress people’s aspirations and muzzle voices. Justifying the resentment from youth, Geelani said that our youth are taking arms to put an end to slavery and this barbarity.
Unending curbs on political activities and continuous detention of resistance leadership has created political uncertainty in state and as such our youth are quite disheartened with prevailing situation as peaceful activities are denied, asserted Geelani.
Geelani while referring to awful situation in detention centers and police lockups, said that people particularly youth are subjected third degree torture by police authorities.
Taking dig at state police, Geelani said that to prove themselves as relevant & more loyal, surpassed all limits, while inflicting atrocities.
Condemning Delhi for their unrealistic approach, Geelani said that continuous bloodshed in state and consequently dead bodies of our youngsters give us extreme pain.
We need peace said Geelani, however it is Delhi that is denying our right and creating hurdles. Denouncing Delhi for their obstinate approach, Geelani said, India can play a key role in bringing the peace in sub-continent, however bold measures are needed to resolve this pending issue.
Meanwhile, denouncing the use of brute force against students in Handwara, Syed Ali Geelani demanded stringent action against erring police officials. Urging immediate halt on brutalities against student community, Geelani said that authorities have turned these institutions into battle field.
Geelani expressed his anguish over manhandling of students and asked authorities to stop this bullying or face resentment. Students are our future and unjustified and use of brute forces is intolerable, said Geelani.
Deploying forces in educational institutions is against the spirits of education, said Geelani and repercussions for this bullying is quite normal phenomenon.
Meanwhile, demanding immediate release of its incarcerated THK leader, Mushtaq Ahmad Hura, APHC expressed its deep concern over his deteriorating condition.
Since last nine months, Hura is in unlawful custody and instead of releasing him the authorities slapped PSA thrice and thus creating hurdles in his release
Spokesman said that said leader was bailed out in all cases, however police authorities are not honoring court orders and hence languishing in unlawful detention.
It is terrible said, spokesman that detains in police station Pattan even can’t sleep because of insufficient space & disclosed that more than thirty detainees are lodged in a small room. It is extreme violation of human rights, Spokesman said & added that Mushtaq Ahmad Hura is seriously ill & suffering from different ailments but authorities are reluctant to release him. (KNS)
