Srinagar/May,5: A complete shutdown is being observed today in Shopian town in south Kashmir against the killing of a civilian driver Nazir Sheikh after militants ambushed an army patrol last evening.
All the shops and other business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the roads in the main town.
Sheikh was ferrying soldiers returning from a daylong anti-militancy operation in Shopian when militants ambushed the vehicle on Thursday. Three soldiers were also injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, thousands of people turned up at his funeral prayers in Kachdoora village of the district.
The mourners were shouting pro-freedom slogans as Sheikh’s body was being taken for burial.
