MoS urban dev reviews SMC Working, stresses on effective City drainage system

Srinagar/May,2:  Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development, Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education Tuesday reviewed  functioning of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and called for effective drainage system for the Srinagar City.

During the meeting, the Minister took stock of various ongoing works being undertaken by the Corporation. She also reviewed the steps taken by the civic body to improve sanitation works, solid waste management plans, issuance of building permissions and other related matters.

The meeting was informed about the progress and functioning of various ongoing schemes launched by the corporation for beautification of the Srinagar city.  It was stated that the process of tendering has been speeded up for various drainage and desilting projects and cleaning of the city drains will be taken up on priority to ensure visible improvement in   city drainage system.

The Minister was told that SMC has been working on multiple strategies to control the dog menace within the city limits which have reduced the numbers of dog bite incidents considerably.

On the occasion, Asiea asked the officials to complete all the ongoing projects efficiently and within the stipulated time. She also asked the SMC officials to speed up the pace of measures being taken for the city sanitation.  Stressing on the importance of waste segregation before its disposal, she asked the officials to install dustbins at various locations in the city to make the garbage segregation process easy.

She further directed the officers to ensure that the building permissions are issued in a hassle-free manner through a single window system. However, she directed the concerned authorities to act strictly against the violators under the law.

Later, the Minister visited Batpora Srinagar to express condolences to the family of the slain police constable, Ishfaq Ahmed Hajam, who was killed in a militant attack at Kulgam Monday.

While expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, she assured them of all possible support by the Government.

She also visited Srinagar Police Hospital to take stock of the medicare facilities being provided to the patients there.

The Minister inspected Emergency, OPD, Surgical units, and other sections of the health institution. She interacted with the patients and doctors and enquired about quality of services available at the hospital.
