New Delhi, May 1: The Supreme Court today slapped a fine of Rs 25 lakh on an NGO, Suraj India Trust, for filing a frivolous petition before it.
The bench was headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Jagdish Singh Khehar.
Rajasthan-based NGO, Suraj India Trust, had so far, filed 64 Public Interest Litigations (PILs), which were mostly unsuccessful, in the apex court.
The PIL of the Non-Governmental Organisation had opposed the collegium system of appointment of judges.
After noting that the NGO had wasted precious time, the apex court slapped the heavy cost of Rs 25 lakh on it.
