Srinagar/May,1: Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, Asiea Naqash, Monday lauded the role of sweepers (safai karmacharis) in ensuring and maintenance of cleanliness in the society.
The Minister stated this Monday at a ‘Bada Khanna’ (big feast) function held on the banks of river Jhelum View Park which was attended by a large number of sweepers and officials of Municipal Corporation.
Asiea said the function was aimed at appreciating the work of sweepers, who often remain unthanked for daunting task they do for the betterment of the society.
She said to ensure cleanliness of our surroundings is not only job of sweepers, but it is our collective responsibility as conscientious citizens to ensure cleanliness and hygienic surroundings.
She appealed people living on the banks of water bodies to not throw garbage into them as it negatively impacts the environment and is against the teachings of every religion.
Later, prizes were distributed among sweepers to encourage them to carry on their work with added zeal.
