Kashmir observes shutdown against Kupwara civilian’s killing

Srinagar, Apr 30: The Kashmir valley today observed shutdown against the killing of an aged civilian allegedly by army in Kupwara district on Thursday during clashes when the locals were demanding the bodies of the militants.
The shutdown was called by joint Hurriyat leaders to protests against the killing. Shops were closed and markets wore a deserted look in many towns in the valley. However, the flee-market in Srinagar saw a brisk presence of shoppers throughout the day.
Private and thin movement of public transport was witnessed on the roads in Srinagar and the towns of the valley. The police said that no “untoward” incident was reported from any part of the region.
In Kupwara district, shops were closed and less transport was seen in the town.
An aged civilian Muhammad Yousuf Bhat was killed allegedly by army in Panzgam area in Kupwara during clashes when the locals were demanding bodies of two militants for burial.
Three army soldiers, including a Captain, were killed on Thursday morning when militants attacked an Artillery camp in Panzgam area near LoC in Kupwara. The two militants were later killed by the army. (KNS)
