Srinagar/April,29: Security forces Saturday burst teargas shells to disperse polytechnic college students, who were protesting against alleged use of disproportionate force on them and professors here Saturday afternoon.
The college staffers alleged that security forces and some students entered into a verbal altercation outside the premises of the technical institute in Gogi Bagh here this afternoon where examination was being conducted.
“The altercation escalated after which security forces entered into the college premises and damaged the parked vehicles and thrashed students,” they alleged.
They said Head of the Department (HOD) of Automobile wing of the institute tried to pacify the situation, but he was also allegedly thrashed by the security forces. “The HOD was rushed to SMHS hospital,” they said, adding the female principle of the institute was also allegedly manhandled by the security forces.
Later, the students protested against alleged use of disproportionate force by security force on them and staff members of the college.
However, security forces deployed in the area burst teargas shells to disperse the protesting students, who resorted to stone pelting.
The clashes were still going on when the reports last came in.
