FC Agri inaugurates workshop on ‘Sericulture in JK-Vision 2030’

Jammu/April,28: Financial Commissioner, Agriculture Production Department, Pramod Jain inaugurated a workshop ‘Sericulture in J&K-vision 2030” here Friday.

The State level workshop organized by the Sericulture Development Department, J&K  was attended by the Director Sericulture Development Department, Dr Malik Farooq, Director Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute Pampore, R. K. Bhagat, Additional Director Sericulture Development Department Jammu, Senior Sericulture Experts and Senior officers of Sericulture Development Department and Central Silk Board Ministry of Textiles Government of India.

Speaking at the workshop, the Financial Commissioner said there is need to restore the past glory of silk industry in the State and make it more profitable for the stakeholders. He said Government will support the effort of the department to develop the silk industry on modern lines. He also emphasized upon the need to improve the productivity and profitability with value addition and employment generation. He provided valuable suggestions while highlighting the importance of Sericulture in the State.

During the workshop, the drafted vision document was deliberated and discussed, highlighting the strategies to   achieve the projected target of production of 510 MT of Raw silk by end of 2030 and to make the J&K a leading silk producing state in India.

During the deliberations different technical session were organized on mulberry sector, silkworm seed sector and post cocoon sector. Each Technical session was followed by discussion and the valuable suggestions and recommendations presented by the participants were recorded for incorporation in the vision for transforming sericulture industry into economically viable and sustainable industry in the State.
