Jammu/April,27: A meeting of State Level Sericulture Coordination Committee was organized Thursday under the Chairmanship of Financial Commissioner, Agriculture Production Department, Pramod Jain here.
The meeting was attended by the Director Sericulture Development Department, Director Agriculture Jammu, Director Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute Pampore, Additional Director Sericulture Development Department Jammu, Joint Secretary Technical Regional Office Central Silk Board New Delhi and Senior Officers of Sericulture Development Department and Central Silk Board.
This biennial event is organized at state level to deliberate upon the important developmental issues in Sericulture Sector and important policy decisions are taken for uplift of framing community associated with sericulture and all other stakeholders to make the industry economically sustainable.
Administrative Secretaries of Rural Development Department and Panchayat Raj and Social Welfare Department participated as special invites to undertake and promote sericulture in convergence with the schemes of these two departments.
During the deliberations of the meeting important issues pertaining to every sector of the industry were reviewed and policy decisions were taken in the interest of development of sericulture in the state.
A detailed discussion was held on the implementation of Schedule Caste Sub-Plan project in District Kathua and Udhampur and critical interventions required for strengthening of Silkworm Seed Sector to make the state self reliant in seed production.
Officer of the CSB assured about the logistic financial support to the state out of the available financial resources, besides Rural Development Department support which is already in place in the state through Research Institutes.
Some major policy decisions were taken to make the department self reliant especially in Mulberry Sector, Seed Sector and Post Cocoon Sector and to explore possibility of funding from line departments to bridge the financial gaps and achieve the projected goals.
It was informed in the meeting that the production of seed is increased. The Financial Commissioner asked the sericulture department to ensure to make the state self reliant in seed production.
He also asked the concerned departments to redouble their efforts to restore the glory of J&K’s sericulture industry and make it one of the leading bi-voltine silk production State in the county. He assured the concerned that the State Government will give them maximum possible support to achieve the objective of revival of sericulture industry in the State.
