New Delhi/April,22: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura participated in a meeting on ‘Reforms in Agriculture Marketing’ convened here Tuesday by the Union Agriculture Minister.

The occasion also marked the launch of Model Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2017.

Hanjura in his speech dwelt on the implementation of the Act after due consultation with other Ministers whose departments also come in its ambit. He called for establishment of Mandis in the radius of 10 kms in the first phase. These Mandis can reduce the transportation costs and increase the disposable income for the farmers. He also stressed for financial support from Union Agriculture Ministry for opening of these Mandis and other infrastructural needs of the agriculture in the State.

E-NAM is being implemented throughout the country and 585 Mandis will be linked to it. A unified Agriculture Market for the country will finally be a reality in near future and the Minister apprised the meeting that Big Mandis in Jammu and Kashmir will be on the portal soon.

The Union Secretary for Agriculture briefed the Minister and expressed his full support for the Saffron Mission in Jammu and Kashmir.
