Srinagar, Apr 23: The government has directed the courts to hold speedy trials so that the persons facing trial do not languish in jails longer.
“I have directed the public prosecutors and courts to hold speedy trial so that the accused should not languish in jails for long time,” Abdul Haq Khan, Law minister, told KNS.
Khan said that he held a review meeting of his department and asked law officers of Munsif and Sessions courts to hold time-bound proceedings.
The minister said that criminal cases in Sessions and Munsif courts take time in trials.
“In some cases, innocents are being tried and the court trials linger on for longer duration. I have directed the police to expedite investigation into criminal and other cases,” the minister told KNS.
He said that he will review pending corruption cases against bureaucrats and other officials “as soon as I reach in Srinagar”.
The meeting was attended by DGP Dr S P Vaid, Advocate General of the state Jahangir Iqbal Ganaie, DIGs, prosecuting officers, law officers of Munsif and Sessions courts. (KNS)
