Srinagar/April,22: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Showkat Ahmad Beigh, Saturday inspected the mushroom-cum-demonstration training centre at Lalmandi Srinagar to take stock of its progress.
Mushroom Development Officer, senior officers of the Department and other concerned were also present on the occasion.
The Director was briefed that cultivation of mushroom is done for demonstration and training of private growers in spring and autumn seasons. Further, it was said the Department of Agriculture provides technical guidance to private growers and also provides pasteurized compost to them so that the cost of cultivation gets lowered and duration of cultivation gets decreased by one month.
On the occasion, the Director said the high-technology integrated mushroom development cum training centre developed at the cost of Rs. 3.5 crore will be functional at Lalmandi by in the month of May. He said the centre will provide training and demonstration to the unemployed youth and agriculture related people on large scale and will provide pasteurized compost to mushroom growers of the Valley.
Keeping in view of medicinal values of mushroom, he emphasized on the officers to create awareness about benefits of its cultivation to attract more and more growers and provide technical knowhow to them for its increased yield.
