Ex speaker Naik dies in Srinagar

Srinagar/April,22: Former minister and ex- speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Ali Mohammad Naik died here last night.He was 87 and is survived by two sons and three daughters.
Mr Naik, who was critically wounded in a militant attack on April 17, 2006 when his guard was killed, breathed his last on way to hospital last night.
He had completed his BA and later LLB from Aligrah Muslim University. He joined politics after working  as an advocate for some years.
He was General Secretary of Plebiscite Front under Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah but  left Plebiscite Front and contested assembly elections against Abdul Gani Trali in 1967. He later become  Deputy Speaker Legislative Assembly in the Mir Qasim government.
Mr Naik become education minister in the G M Shah government after he defeated National Conference (NC) nominee Mohammad Subhan Bhat in 1982. He was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) in 1998 from Anantnag  constituency.
The four-time legislator also served as Speaker of J&K Legislative Assembly besides minister of state for Revenue and Fisheries.
On learning about the demise of Sh. Ali Mohammad Naik, veteran National Conference leader, former Minister and Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, Governor N.N. Vohra in a condolence message, has conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has also condoled the demise of veteran politician, former Minister and Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Ali Muhammad Naik who breathed his last Friday evening. Recalling the contribution of  Naik in the social and political awakening of the people, Mehbooba Mufti said the void created by the death of late leader would be difficult to fill. “Throughout his life Naik sahib worked selflessly for the welfare of his people and we need to emulate this spirit”, the Chief Minister said.The Chief Minister prayed for peace to the departed soul. She has also extended her condolences to the bereaved family of  Naik.
In a condolence message, the Dy CM Nirmal Singh s conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Member Parliament Muzaffar Hussain Baig also condoled the demise of veteran politician and former Minister, Ali Muhammad Naik. Recalling the contribution of Mr. Naik in the social and political awakening of the people, Baig said the void created by the death of late leader would be difficult to fill.“Throughout his life Naik sahib worked selflessly for the welfare of his people and we need to emulate this spirit”, he said.
Muzaffar Hussain Baig prayed for peace to the departed soul. She has also extended her condolences to the bereaved family of Mr. Naik.
Minister for Revenue, Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Abdul Rehman Veeri in his condolence message expressed his sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.
Expressing grief over the tragic incident at Kuligad Dhrabhshala in which two persons died, Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma Saturday visited the spot to take stock of the road condition.
The Minister along with the Superintending Engineer R&B Doda/Kishtwar/Ramban, Niaz Bandey, ADC Kishtwar Kishori Lal Sharma, Executive Engineer Doda, Bhushan Lal Thusoo and Executive Engineer Kishtwar Maninder Kumar, visited the spot to ascertain the situation and condition of road on which work is being initiated by NHIDCL on war footing basis.
The Minister expressed anguish over the incident and urged upon the authorities to be vigilant so as to avoid loss of lives.
“All we need to do is better implementation with honesty,” he said. After the visit the Minister convened an emergency meeting with the officers at Thathri Dak Bungalow and discussed the measures for alternate road for which Executive Engineer R&B has been directed to Submit DPR within days.
The Minister also called MD NHIDCL Anand Kumar for taking a decision to declare the areas a susceptible zone which was approved on the directions on the Minister.
Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura and Minister of State for Forest, Environment, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and Cooperative Mir Zahoor Ahmad Saturday expressed condolences over sad demise of veteran political activist, former minister and MP, Ali Mohammad Naik who passed away at his Srinagar residence, Friday evening.
In their separate condolence messages, Hanjura and Mir Zahoor described him as a great soul who was down to earth and was committed for welfare of people in the State especially the Tral area.The Ministers expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace.
MLA Khansahib, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen also expressed his condolences over sad demise of veteran political activist, former minister and MP, Ali Mohammad Naik who passed away at his Srinagar residence, Friday evening.In his condolences messages, he described him as a Good Samaritan who worked hard for welfare of the people.He expressed sympathizes with the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul. e to the departed soul.
MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami also expressed his condolences over sad demise of veteran political activist, former minister and MP, Ali Mohammad Naik who passed away at his Srinagar residence, Friday evening.
In his condolences messages, Tarigami described him as a Good Samaritan who worked hard for welfare of the people.
Tarigami expressed sympathizes with the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul.
