Srinagar/ April, 20: National Conference Chief Spokesperson and former minister Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday assailed the PDP-BJP dispensation for its most unbecoming and inhuman act of inundating entire Mir Behri area in the heart of Srinagar city by closing down the gates of Dal Lake, resulting in water logging of the locality.
“It is a gross human rights violation being committed by the PDP in terms of submerging a thickly populated area just to avenge the humiliation it suffered at the hands of the residents who voted for National Conference candidate in the recently held bypolls to Srinagar parliamentary constituency”, Aga Syed Ruhullah said in a statement issued here this afternoon.
Expressing serious concern over safety of people due to water logging, he said it is beyond comprehension even to imagine any government stooping so low in order to satiate its political vendetta. He said the water logging has exposed the residents to numerous challenges, imminent damage to their dwelling units being most severe. He said the forced submergence can lead to several water borne diseases apart from impacting the mobility of the residents.
Aga Syed Ruhullah said the present coalition government has lost any moral authority to govern, which in any case is in shambles. “In such a disgusting scenario, the administration should not allow itself become party to peoples’ woes”, he said and hoped that immediate steps will be taken for discharge of the water by opening the gates and pressing into service dewatering pumps. These measures are needed to be taken on war footing basis to save the area from the imminent threat of epidemic.
The MLA Budgam and the Chief Spokesperson cautioned the government against anti-people measures saying such atrocities may cause them suffering but cannot weaken their resolve to fight injustice and anarchy. He said the PDP led government was taking sadistic pleasure in exposing to the people to miseries, not only by denying them basic needs but also muzzling their voice. “This is going to rebound back, severly and sternly”,
Aga Syed Ruhullah maintained.
He expressed solidarity with the suffering people of Mir Behri, saying he will take up the issue with the administration and leave no stone unturned for the issue to be resolved.
