Srinagar/ April, 17: A Restaurant was penalized Tuesday for charging extra than Maximum Retail Price (MRP) by officials of Legal Metrology Department.
Following a complaint a team of the Department inspected the restaurant and found that the restaurant management was charging extra-VAT of 5 percent on MRP of mineral water bottles and additional 10 percent as service charges. A challan was filed against the restaurant for overcharging its customers and was fined Rs 5000 accordingly.
It was said under Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, no commercial establishment can charge more than MRP and service charges are voluntary and have to be waived-off if the customer is not satisfied with services.
