Palestinian journalists hold 65-hour radio broadcast, longest in the world

Gaza: A pair of Palestinian journalists have ended a 65-hour radio broadcast organized to raise awareness about the conditions that the Palestinian prisoners face, Anadolu Agency reported.
The nearly three-day long program was “to highlight the Palestinian prisoners’ issue, according to event co-founder Mohammed Haniyeh. “Now, we are planning to register our achievement with the Guinness Book of Records as the longest radio broadcast in the world.”
“Guinness had developed complicated conditions for us but the views of the independent arbitrators, who were chosen by Guinness to monitor our work, were confirming that we have followed the conditions they set,” he said. “We are waiting for a response from the administration of Guinness, and we have a great opportunity for being accepted there.”
Fatima al-Qadi also took part in the broadcast that included several meetings about issues pertaining to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners began a mass open-ended hunger strike Monday to protest Israel’s detention policies.
The strike was launched to mark Palestinian Prisoners Day as inmates demand improved medical care and better treatment of female prisoners.
There are approximately 6,500 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, according to Palestinian figures.
