Srinagar/ April, 17: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Monday convened a meeting to review functioning of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and progress of various ongoing projects under the Corporation.
Commissioner SMC, Joint Commissioner SMC, Executive Engineers of SMC, Deputy Director Planning and other concerned attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner was briefed about the progress of demolition drive launched by the SMC against illegally raised structures in the City. He directed the SMC officers to intensify the drive and strictly implement the building permission rules.
While reviewing sanitation measures being taken by the SMC in the city, Khan asked the Commissioner SMC to take concerted efforts to make the Srinagar city clean and ensure hygienic atmosphere in the city.
Stressing on the need to segregate waste before its disposal, he asked the officials to distribute separate dustbins to the households for bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste to make segregation easy. He also directed the officials to repair all defunct street lights and focus on cleaning of chocked drains.
On the directions of Chief Minister, the Divisional Commissioner asked the SMC officers to make the Srinagar City polythene free and create awareness about ill-effects of polythene use.
