Srinagar, Apr 16: Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday expressed deep grief and sorrow at the ‘cold blooded murder’ of Sajad Hussain Sheikh of Baramullah at Batamaloo yesterday evening by the Indian troops and extended his sympathy with the bereaved family.
According to the statement issued to KNS, Mirwaiz who continues to be placed under house arrest for the past more than one month said “such inhumanity while condemnable in the strongest words has become the order of the day in Kashmir as almost every day people especially the youth are deliberately targeted and killed.”
Mirwaiz said, “Those that are spared death are subjected to torture, harassment and humiliation as various shocking videos circulating the internet show. Tying people to jeeps parading them through villages and using them as human shields , coercing young college students and beating them till they bleed while forcing them to chant certain slogans shows open endorsement rather pursuance of the policy of revenge and punishment by the Indian state against a people demanding their basic political right.”
He said that what the state needs to understand is that repeated ‘atrocities repression and highhandedness’ has outlived its effectiveness as an instrument of taming Kashmiris and only acts as a catalyst to further strengthen people’s resolve to seek justice dignity and their political right to decide their future.
Mirwaiz said in the best interest of all living in the volatile region, Govt of India should accept the reality in and of Kashmir, “More so after the recent peoples verdict in the elections which GoI uses as an alibi to legitimize its control and should address the issue seriously and maturely respecting the aspirations of the people of Kashmir,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz also condemned the killings of Bashir Ahmed Dar who belonged to a pro India political party in Pulwama.
He said every killing is sad and people should be left to their conscience to decide for their actions and not harmed on the basis of their political affiliations. (KNS)
