Jammu/ April,15: Members of Indian Taekwondo Team was called by Fayaz Sheikh DG Youth Services and Sports department for the Felicitation after the arrival from 1st Women International Taekwondo Championship from 5th to 6th April 2017 at Kathmandu Nepal. It was an honor for J&K State that out of 8 members Indian team 3 members are from J&K State and Mr. Atul Pangotra (International Player and International Referee) also accompanied the team as a Head Coach. Around 8 Countries participated in the 1st woman International Taekwondo Championships 2017(i.e. Korea, Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, India and Pakistan). The Event was organized by Women Empowerment Committee and Nepal Taekwondo Association which is recognized by Nepal Olympic Association. This is first ever International Women Taekwondo Championship organized by any National Federation. The main motto of conducting this championship is Women Empowerment in Sports.
The Performance of Indian team was outstanding in just concluded international. The Indian Team won 5 Medals ( 3 Sliver, 2 Bronze).The Team Consist of Ms Mukta Gupta (PET) in Youth Services department ,Ms Afreeb Hyder Student of 12th Standard DPS Srinagar and Ms. Baazalah Mushtaq currently working with Law Department in Civil Secretariat.
Ms. Mukta Gupta Won Bronze medal in Individual Event Poomsae and recently she also won the Bronze medal in National Level Championship in Vishakhapatnam. Ms. Afreen hyder won the Bronze medal in Kyourgi in U 57 Kg weight Category and Ms. Baazalah Mushtaq also Played well in U 62 Kg and lost in Qtr Finals.
Fayaz Sheikh DG Youth Services and Sports Department praised J&K player’s hard work and dedication in the field of Taekwondo Sports and Haji Mirza Deputy Director Youth Services and sports also gives his best wishes to the players and Coach .
